Day Two, the Explorers start their two day expedition exploring Iceland. Today is a cycle ride around the lake to a a thermal spring and then onto a remote campsite.

After adjusting the bikes and getting on our helmets we headed on the track away from the campsite and soon realised the ride was going to be a bumpy one. The rural roads are compressed gravel and ridged from all the vehicles driving over them – pity the bikes suspension wasn’t as good as the cars.

The views across the lake were amazing – at one point we found a small beach next to the lake – we admired the view, skimmed some stones and took in the clear air before continuing finally reaching our first thermal springs. Despite reading about them it still takes a while to get used to seeing a boiling hot lake with steam and hazard signs adjacent to a pretty normal looking rural road.
